James L .and Lucinda Bedell House, before and after

In 2008, it looked as if the James L .and Lucinda Bedell House was about to collapse. Neighbors had lodged complaints, warning the once-beautiful free-standing Second-Empire style residence was abandoned. The porch apparently collapsed in the winter of 2007-2008, and the building fence was dangerously protruding, after at least three years of being abandoned.

It seemed as if the beautiful Tottenville home, on 7484 Amboy Road. would be no more. Built in 1874, it was once called the most beautiful Second Empire home in the South Shore of Staten Island. After the property was sealed off and the graffiti cleaned, new owners stepped in and beautifully restored it in 2017-2018.
