In March of 2008, when I took the before photo, the sign was about 300 feet to the north of its current placement. In the spring of 2009, it was moved to its current position.<\/p>\n<p>Long Island City by the water has grown exponentially in the ten years that span the photo,and the number of residential high-rises now appear to crowd the once-industrial area.<\/p>\n<p>Even the area in Manhattan has changed, from a mere parking lot and an abandoned pier to the very busy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ferry.nyc\/routes-and-schedules\/landing\/east-34th-street-midtown-east\/\">East 34th Street\/Midtown East Landing ferry station<\/a> of the NYC Ferry.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the Pepsi-Cola sign in Gantry Plaza state park is a recurring theme in my before and after pictures, since I already shot two versions of it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emilio.nyc\/blog\/before-and-after\/pepsi-cola-sign-in-long-island-city-before-and-after\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emilio.nyc\/blog\/before-and-after\/pepsi-cola-sign-in-long-island-city-before-and-after-full-frontal\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ba-slider\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.emilio.nyc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/2018-LIfrom34thstreet.jpg\" \/><div class=\" resize\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.emilio.nyc\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/2009-LIfrom34thstreet.jpg\" \/><\/div><span class=\"handle\"><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the changes in this photo, which is not that apparent, is the placement of the Pepsi-Cola sign.
